If it's MA I wouldn't stress; seems like they haven't gotten to it. Though, and I heard this from a Columbia professor once, people admitted to the MA program are usually Columbia students with MS degrees. Either way, they'll email the results by Weds.

Re: experience/lack thereof, my impression is that it's not only about having journalism experience. I was admitted to the broadcast concentration with pretty no journalistic writing experience. I interned at a magazine in college and worked at a different small magazine on the editorial side for 3 years after graduating, and now work in nonprofit. Columbia only takes about 1/3 of the class straight from undergrad. Having any sort of work experience will strengthen your app & show a breadth of interest.

10 years experience > a couple internships in college. Apply when you HAVE work experience. Of course you could not have had 10 years experience in college, but graduating and then working in the real world would allow you to gain that experience. I suggest you never take the LSAT, because your logic is terrible.

Accepted by email to part-time today (I had lost all hope). Two internships and very short stint as producer at small station with ivy league undergrad degree. Was waitlisted last year so those who are waitlisted apply again and don't give up hope! Message said last of part-time going out today and international. Check your email!

I'm in NYC and STILL haven't received anything. I applied for the Part Time MS program. I've resigned myself to the idea that I've been rejected, but I simply can't believe it takes this long to send a letter 100 blocks.

When your letter mentions "journalism experience" it does not mean an "intensive five month INTERNSHIP." I know a few people who got in and some of them have YEARS of work experience, ie. 10 years in DC working for Reuters. An internship is not a replacement for actually working in the field of journalism as a professional.

HAHA. I got the rejection letter from Columbia and it SAID NOTHING about my lack of journalistic credentials. It was a real form letter that began "We received many qualified applicants..." Seems like you are overstating your credential, buddy. Maybe you should get an internship and try again?

"In your case, the Committee felt that you needed more journalism experience before attempting to tackle our rigorous program." Form letter. Believe me, they would not have said that if they were allowed to write something non-template.

To answer CA question -- it was a manila-sized, white envelope....NOT an official USPS "Priority Mail" package. Instead, it was an envelope with a machine generate stamp that read in 12 or 14 point font to the left of the stamp "priority mail." Hope this answers your question.
