Anyone heard about rejection or being waitlisted?

I was told that I ranked #8 ouf of 33 in the waitlist for UC Irvine. If you got accepted and decided not to attend, I kindly ask you to decline the offer. This is really my last hope now. I got 2 waitlist which turned into rejections two years ago. This year, I got 3 waitlist and 2 of them has already become rejections. I really don't want to have the same nightmare again. To the UC Irvine post below: Do you know your exact rank in the waitlist, and also did you receive the offer via email or checking the portal?

To the last poster, could you please tell your concentration that you were accepted to off the waitlist? Is it theory? IR? comparative? American? Any more info regarding waitlist acceptance would be much appreciated. I am also waitlisted but was told to wait in order to hear back from the department. I was waitlisted back in January

Just declined a fully funded offer.

Was originally waitlisted and then accepted from the waitlist. Am formally accepting sometime this week! Any new PhDs at Irvine, please reach out if you'd like :) Moving from Colorado to Cali in August.

Hi, I haven't heard back from UCI, does it mean an implicit reject?

I contacted the head of the admission committee inquiring about the status of my application. He replied that my application was wait-listed; however, the department won't be able to extend me an offer. I guess not many admitted student rejected their offers. Please reject Irvine's offer if you have a better one. This most probably would not help. Yet, I hope it does. UC Irvine was my top choice.
