Graduate School Admission Results

SDSU is fourth on my wish list of the nine schools I applied to. Does anyone have any info regarding financial outlook here? I'm torn between SDSU and CSULB, both of which are great programs but it's going to come down to tuition costs and opportunities to finance myself. 4a/0w/4r

To the poster below: I just turned SDSU down because of financials, even though the program sounded fantastic. If you're in-state, tuition is over $8000, but out-of-state adds an extra $6000, then they estimate fees and cost of living at $13000. Honestly, it didn't sound like the TA position (which is a competitive position) came with a tuition waiver, and personally I didn't want the stress of constantly worrying about where my funding was coming from nor pay for another three years of school on top of what I still owe. Maybe you'll find better answers?

To the poster who responded to my SDSU inquiry: thanks for your input! And I agree -- it comes down to the financial opportunities for me. Between CSULB and SDSU, LB seems the better choice for me. It's local, living is cheaper, and the tuition is slightly less. I'm mostly concerned that SDSU seems to have more scholarships/TAships available, but if they're also just as competitive as everywhere else, the two-year LB program outweighs SDSU's three-year for me.

Accepted off of USF wait list on April 4th for CNF, and am officially declining their offer today. Hope this helps someone out.

Like other posters, it required an absurd amount of time for the school to tell me I suck. Would have preferred to know sooner so I could move on with my life. 0A/1W/3R

Rejected off the waitlist. A bit bummed but grateful I will be attending another fully funded program. I also turned down Columbia, NYU and the New School. Hope that helps some folks! Sending love!

Moved to Phase II.

Got a call of acceptance at 4:49pm on Sunday January 29th, and a form in the mail a few days later. The form: I'll need to send in with a deposit to secure my spot. Will work on this over the course of February.

Withdrew my application after receiving an e-mail from the New School asking for transcripts from a 1-year technical course I took back in 2001. These were not transferred to my undergraduate degree plan, nor are they pertinent to my life today. When I pressed for their reasoning, they insinuated that they were going to weight it against my other credentials (which are impeccable) and I felt though that it was wrong to do so. I was a different person then. I withdrew my application the next morning. Creative Writing apps should be weighted first on the submitted piece, the essay and then the undergraduate degree plan. A tech course I took nearly twenty years ago should be a non-issue.
