TTPB: Haven't head anything from UCSD, SB, or Davis. I'm an american, maybe this is a differentiation. But likely just a REJECT LOL

The respect for UCSD in my eyes has fallen after seeing this year's admitted students. Kindly take help from students to design the selection process, they know better the importance of various academic achievements. Highly skewed procedure

To the dude who got into CMU Austin ETHz but not UCSD, I have to say that it shocks me that UCSD did not accept you man. I would assume that what you guess is probably true, as UT Austin and ETHz are both crazily meritocratic schools, and if you got into those two there's no way your profile isn't strong enough for UCSD. Needless to talk about CMU ofc. I really did not expect schools like UCSD would actually consider candidates "overqualified".

TTPB, are rejects pertaining to the track CS 76 or it's about different track?? I haven't receive email nor do my status change on the website...

Declined the offer as it is too late... Have already accepted offer from another college.

Would have loved to study here, but, oh well. Columbia it is I guess. Unless UCB M.Eng gets back with an admit though.

I was confused because I was accepted by CMU MSCS. Would that count? Also, judging by the different local websites in China, there has been a clear decrease in the number of Chinese admits at UCLA and UCSD this year. I kind of got a similar impression from the Indians too. We'll see when they open up the admission stats next year or so. But I totally agree with both UCs getting better recognition these days, so it is hard.

I don't get why so many people are getting salty at the rejection. Technically UCSD ranks #9 nationwide in terms of computer science research, not to mention that their location makes them probably even more popular than Michigan or Cornell which are ahead of it. So, first of all, only the big four can be considered as "much more competitive" programs than UCSD. Applying to UCSD in CS master is sort of equivalent to applying to schools like UChicago or Columbia for undergrad. Anyone could get rejected and they do have the luxury to reject some of the best students. So if you're not close to perfect in BOTH grades at school, GRE and research/recommendation letters there's no way to assume that UCSD would accept you.

I know admissions are holistic, but I can't really understand this since I got accepted by much more selective programs. The only exceptions are UCLA and UCSD. I suspect that they are mass rejecting internationals on purposes. Probably state policy? Who knows.
