Soooooo excited!!!!

I applied in January and was informed that I was waitlisted in mid-March. I have been waiting since then. Does anyone know if Oxford actually accept students off the waiting list?

I'm the guy who wrote the long note. Firstly, the person accepted into the Msc for Hebrew, congratulations! I'm sure your time at Oxford will be amazing. I don't really have an interest in doing a PHD, but I'm sure I can find another masters programme which will accept me. Or I'll work in a closely related area until I apply to Oxford next year again. Secondly, the person who was rejected last year but got in this year, congratulations! I honestly never thought about the idea of re-applying seriously until I read this. This is certainly within the realm of possibility. Thank you all for your support and enjoy your time at Oxford. You're a selected few who have been rewarded for your hard work with this amazing opportunity, make the most out of it.

Thank you for your kind words previous poster in my programme, I am the one who wrote the long message before. Whenever a semester of university studies would end, I would finance my own studies in the Middle East during vacation time. I also lived in Jordan for 5 months studying Arabic there. I can only speculate as to why I wasn't accepted, I'm sure they have their reasons. Clearly I'm biased and perhaps my view of my credentials is not in line with their view. We'll see what happens, I have some attractive alternatives which could potentially increase my chances of getting accepted to this programme in the future. Or I'll apply to other universities. Were you accepted? Thank you

This sucks. I wanted this so bad, but it didn’t go my way and I failed. I didn’t even get waitlisted which means I wasn’t even close. It’s a stark reminder that sometimes your best is not enough. I have a 1st class degree/GPA 3.95+ (equivalent) from a respected university in Europe, teaching experience at said university, three strong LORs, a SOP which impressed and was reviewed by three Oxbridge alumni, a number of extra-curricular activities highly relevant to the programme I applied to, and two writing samples which I had gotten high marks on previous professors. At least other attractive career alternatives presented themselves shortly before this rejection which cushioned the blow; otherwise, I probably would have felt crushed right at this moment as this has been my primary motivator for the better part of two years. But now, finally, the wait is over; sitting and updating my email for the past 8 weeks has been arguably the most debilitating part of this whole process. I wish I could have gotten this rejection a little bit earlier so I wouldn’t have put my life on hold waiting for a disappointing email, but alas, that is my own fault. I tried and failed, getting rejected can be devastating, but it’s not the end of the world. The only way to move is forward. I’m certain studying at Oxford would have been a pleasure and an amazing experience, but it’s not a ticket straight to happiness and success. There are other ways to achieve that and you shouldn’t let this rejection define you or your future. To everyone who accepted, congratulations. Enjoy and make the most out of your time at Oxford. MSc from a University in London and awesome CV but I think writing samples not good enough.... at least I tried and also got into LSE instead which is not a bad Plan B I guess

Chinese Studies student - My limit was also 200 words. The deadline for me to send them my hard copy acceptance form is tomorrow. I thought I read somewhere that they had four 2+3 language+PhD studentships, so if one of them declines.. You will know soon, good luck!

Hey Chinese applicant. Thank you! On the ESRC process - I was contacted by the Oriental Institute several weeks ago with the request to submit a DPhil proposal and then last week I was contacted by the Social Science funding coordinator with the offer of a studentship. I have not heard anything on college placement either. Good luck

Received offer from department on 15 March 2016 and college offer on 21 March 2016. Final year undergraduate at UK institution.

Email with attached decision-letter arrived around 11:30 CET.

I was also asked by the Oriental Institute to submit a PhD proposal within a few days to be considered for ESRC funding last week. I presume it means something good, but it could be standard practice. Does anyone know more?
