Economics, Stanford University So like stanford to boast about how great their stats are in a rejection letter ... "regret to inform you that you were not admitted to our graduate program in Economics. A formal decision letter is being mailed. We received applications from many more qualified candidates than we can accept given our financial resources and space restrictions. Consequently, many strong candidates had to be turned down. While we cannot respond to each applicant individually about the strengths and weaknesses of their application, you may find it helpful to know that the successful applicants had perfect or near perfect scores on the GRE, impeccable letters of recommendation, extremely high grades - especially in math and economic courses, and demonstrated evidence of research ability. The committee also took into account the calibre of the undergraduate and/or graduate institutions attended. Applicants are also compared against the pool of other applicants applying in the same year. This year we had approximately 800 applications, but we were only able to offer admission to 72 applicants. I hope that this feedback is informative."

Economics, Stanford University Ah well - by the way, to the Yale admits, I went to undergrad there and would definitely NOT recommend the Econ PhD program! All the grad students complain about TAing, advising and location.

Economics, Stanford University Regarding the rejection letter from Stanford. It seems like a crappy program if they have to boast about the applicants in the letter, like they're trying to make it seem better then it actually is. Silly academics playing their silly games.

Anthropology (cultural), Stanford University attached email pdf. after calling to ask. Awful year to apply, according to my friend there - they're hardly taking any new students (some admits still haven't been notified, though, so take heart if you haven't heard anything!).

Electrical, Stanford University It is disappointing to get a reject from Stanford this year. I would really like to know what is the admission criteria. All my recos were really strong along with 5 publications in known conferences. My MS advisor from top canadian univ had mentioned me to be in the top 1%. Does submitting the application last day make a difference. How much importance is undergrad GPA. That was perhaps a weak point in my application. But, after doing a MS with good GPA, who should care about undergrad GPA. though, i should admit that i did bad in a couple of courses. i dint know that course grades matter so much than projects.. I would like to know what ppl think about the selection criteria in their opinion. Michigan here I come.
