I was an alternate (on the wait list). Email states: "I am very sorry to let you know that our offers of admission have been accepted at a significantly higher rate than we expected, and we are thus unable to offer you admission. While your application is very strong, this year's admissions process was particularly competitive." It's OK--I'm going to UCLA, which is a better fit in many ways!
