- To the poster asking about whether others contacted their potential advisor prior to applying - yes, absolutely. In any master's program, it is either required or highly beneficial to contact a prospective advisor in advance. Otherwise, they don't know who you are and you have no advantage over those applicants the advisor already knows. Additionally, you don't know if the advisor actually plans to accept a new student in the coming academic year; you don't want to waste an application on someone who isn't planning to supervise a new student.
