To the responder to the original poster for Quan Methods in Soc Sci. I think you have your head in the clouds. I agree with the original poster- background does matter. I was not putting him down at all. I have no top 100 in my background either. Many of the univesities esp. ivy leagues have cut offs for GRE scores and GPAs to be even in the running. In general, minority students, poor and middle class whites and international students are relatively disadvantaged both by GREs and by their schools of origen that are typically not in the top tier of U.S. News rankings. Its a crap shoot with weighted dice. Wake up and smell the coffee.
