Although we have decided not to offer you admission to our PhD program, we would like offer you admission to our preparatory Master’s program.\r\nOur Master’s program is designed to provide the necessary skills in mathematics, statistics, and computational methods that will allow you to be successful in a rigorous Ph.D. program such as ours.\r\n\r\nThe Masters’ program has the following basic structure:\r\n\r\nSemester 1 (Fall) – 4 classes (Introduction to Mathematical Methods for Economics, Introduction to Statistical Methods for Econometrics, Introduction to Computational Methods for Economics, Microeconomic Theory)\r\nSemester 2 (Spring) – Macroeconomic theory 3 electives\r\nSemester 3 (Fall) – For those do the PhD preparatory track, 4 classes in the first year Ph.D. sequence. \r\nAt the end of Semester 3 you have the option of applying for admission into the Ph.D. program at Rutgers. If accepted you would take the second semester of the Ph.D. program and move into the program without delay. You also have the option of applying to other programs as well. \r\n\r\nNote that at the end of Semester 2 you may decide that the Ph.D. is not for you after all. There will be many electives that are designed to give you the skills to move into the private sector as an Economist. Our program will specialize in data science and applied econometrics.\r\n\r\nWe have admitted you into our MA program as that saves you from reapplying and paying an extra application fee.
