Email from Dept, they have decided to not admit any new students (PhD and MA) for this admissions cycle

3.9 gpa, 2 years research, 3 strong LORs, student athlete, no pubs. Small liberal arts school.

I was notified that I was not selected for an interview. I have three years of highly-involved research experience with four published manuscripts, one of which being a first author review. However, I am more of a microbiologist so I think my research interests weren't aligned with the program's. Best wishes to everyone with an interview!

Received an email from a member of the graduate committee and POI to schedule an interview.

3.19 undergrad biology GPA, 3.81 masters cell and molecular biology GPA, 44 months lab experience

2 years of undergrad research experience; 1 poster presentation; contacted several PI's before applying and received positive feedback. Standard rejection email says they had a record number of applications.

GRE not required. 1 pier reviewed publication as second author, 1 year industry research, 1 year of undergraduate research, 1 presentation at an international conference, several presentations/posters at college/university conferences, 4 very strong LORs. Had a video chat with potential PI in Oct 2020 and exchanged emails with their current grad students, even had one of them review my SOP before submittal.

Received an interview request from PI on 1/14.

Was expected, I have research experience both paid and non-paid but a low undergraduate GPA. Seemed nicer than a generic rejection email with "Our Admissions Committee has carefully reviewed all applications received and we regret to inform you that we will not be able to extend you an invitation to interview."

Over 5 years of relevant research experience.
