I was surprised to receive this email because I had never finished my application. The program has been completely off my radar since October, when I began my app. Didn't follow through and submit because there wasn't much of a research match. Apparently less than 7% of students even got an interview from around 200 students who applied.

Receiving a rejection letter can be disheartening, but the lack of effort put into their response only adds insult to injury. That being said, I found myself laughing a little at the sloppiness of the letter. It's tough when you put your heart and soul into creating original and unique application materials, only to receive a generic and uninspired response. It was especially disappointing to be turned down when my research interests aligned so well with the program's and faculty's strengths.

Ignore status, looking for suggestions on the better decision between UC Berkeley and Stanford if the advisors are more or less similarly relevant and amazing. In terms of location, department, vibe of campus and avenues it opens up in future? TIA
