Looks like the first wave of mass rejections has been sent out. In my case, I wasn't accepted, but I wasn't rejected either. Is my rejection email impending or am I stuck in purgatory on a waitlist?

hep-ex. The mail says that I am recommended by the department for admission, will receive an official offer letter in the next few weeks. The attached financial offer letter is dated Feb 16. I don't understand the delay!

It's official. Rejected everywhere for the second year in a row. MIT undergrad, lots of research experience, European master's degree. I guess nobody wants to take hep-th.

" All of our initial offers have been made, we will be updating the status of your application by end of this month" - Jennifer Contacted Lars Bildsten via a phone call today and he said the same thing, so I think it's a lost cause!! Had high expectations from them but I have an offer from UC Berkeley

Wow! I can't believe it.

Applied for gravity/string theory, emailed a young professor personally and he replied "it is unlikely that we will be able to make you an offer this year".
