Notified by email to check portal at 11:16AM

I didn't receive an email, I just decided to check the portal today and it said I got rejected. Did undergrad at a reputable college, received my masters from a top 5 school for aerospace engineering graduate programs, and I've been working at a government lab for a year and a half. Currently have 2 conference publications with more upcoming and a journal paper upcoming. I had actually met with an MIT professor back in October and spoke to him about working in his lab group and he's on the grad committee. Our meeting went well and he told me I'm at the top of his list. Despite all of this, I didn't get in. I've got a really good offer with a professor from Minnesota so I'm not too upset. Good luck to everyone

2 years of UD research experience, columbia REU, tutor for 2 years, ta for one year

Only accept 3% out of more than 1000 people. Good luck with my remaining application and good luck to everyone!

No interview.

Expected, because no interview. Applied to Opera of the Future, Constructive Communication and Affective Computing.

If you look at previous year post warning that qualification does not matter any more it is true. Getting more journals at top venue will not help you. I have plenty of papers and feel like I am applying for postdoc but those papers are not what they are looking for. Focus on getting connections and matching to MIT prof research (not advisable) if you really want to get into MIT. Or better still, focus on doing good work and let your papers speak for yourself. Good luck everyone.
