Interview, a bit awkward

At least two faculty and in certain cases up to five faculty have independently reviewed your files and jointly made recommendations. You are one of the highly rated. However, before I make formal offers, I’d like to thoroughly read your application files and reach out to you (as I have done with a few candidates).

Unfortunately, we cannot make an offer to you right now. However, there is some probability we will be able to offer you admission, but it will likely not be until early April (my best estimate at this moment, possibly earlier, possibly later, possibly never). I know this process can be quite stressful and I sincerely ask for your patience.

Accepted but need several days to process formal letter

We have completed our initial round of admission review and unfortunately, we decided to pass on your application at this time. We received over 300 applications for 8 spots. There is a non-zero but low possibility we will be able to offer you admission. If we do, it will likely not come until shortly before April 15. I know this process can be quite stressful and I sincerely ask for your patience
