Accepted via email. Waiting on official acceptance letter and funding

International student here. My offer includes a GA ship; total funding amounts to $45K

Got an email on March 3rd informing me of my acceptance, still waiting to hear details and funding offer. Probably the most surprised by this acceptance because my POI had never really made much contact with me.

Was emailed a letter from the School of Public Policy stating that I've been waitlisted for funding and will receive my final decision regarding that in that regard in my official offer letter from the grad school. Have read about a lot of very generous funding packages for MPP offers from Maryland, here on gradcafe. I hope I get a good funding package too. Congratulations to everyone else who got in!

One literature review publication. Five presentations. Three years of clinical experience.

Just checked my portal and saw a decision- no email. First acceptance and I couldn't be more excited! My undergrad and I hope to commit pending finances. Good luck to all other applicants (check your portals!!).

Emailed the graduate school office about the status of my application, was given an ambiguous response with the line "If we have not contacted you making an offer, we are unlikely to make one". I am assuming a rejection letter is on the way.

Is there anyone here who had an interview with Maryland and hasn't heard back and/or knows what's going on with them? I interviewed with them a month and a half ago and haven't heard a peep from them since. I'm not sure what to think of the silence since I already saw some rejection and waitlist posts.

I received the same ambiguous email as everyone else here, saying that they "prefer not to send rejection letters until the very end of the process." I personally think this is not a nice practice for them to do. They are essentially waitlisting everyone and keeping themselves safe. They can always admit more students if whoever they have admitted decline their offer. However, this is not nice for the student and other graduate schools. For the students, I know that applying for grad school is a stressful thing, and if they just reject us early, we can still make other plans. For other graduate schools, they sent out offers and thought the students will come. However, because UMD is doing this, the students may receive UMD's admission at the very end, and decline other schools. Then, other schools will not have time to make more offers. I personally think their move is harmful for the whole environment of applying to grad school, which is already stressful. It is only good for themselves. However, if every school starts to do this, no one will be benefited. I have withdrew my application, because I have better offers anyway.
