Email letting me know my status was updated, letter accessed through application portal

Kind email. Still pretty disappointed as it was one of my top choices. Oh well. Onwards.

Received a very kind email from the director of the program. Disappointed and - onward!! :) 2r/0a/8p

Very nice phone call from Meghann Meeusen. Funding (TA) is still up in the air--she said there's a "short waitlist" but assured me that it would be available.

The process of selecting students for the incoming class is one that our admissions committee takes very seriously. We must make fine distinctions among highly qualified applicants, many of whom could be successful in our program. We wanted you to know, in fact, that your file made the second round of our process -- meaning that you were among the top 12% of applicants we received this year. Cold comfort, maybe, but we were truly impressed with your work and thought you'd appreciate a small note of encouragement during what is, we know, a stressful period.

Fiction applicant. Got an email asking me to check the website for an update. I was really surprised! Cross-posted to Draft. (1a/1w/1r/10p) Fingers crossed and waiting for other updates :o No word yet on funding (partial).
