I just received an official email that I had been accepted with a fellowship. I had listed condensed matter theory as my main interest but made it clear I was flexible. My pgre score was horrendous, 34%, and my general were not much better, q:162, v:159, AW:4.5 but I am a double major math/physics with a 4.0 and a previous degree in computer science. I also did an Astro REU with a top program and have very solid LOR. 99.9% sure I will accept this offer as this was close to my top choice.

TTPB: Would it be terribly rude or annoying to email the department to ask about my status? I need to appropriately RSVP and book outgoing plane tickets for Stanford, so I need to know if I would be staying in CA for few more days. I'm assuming that no words until now means a rejection, but I'd like to know for sure.
