The most polite rejections out of the rejections I received. Kudos to them for humanely putting down my dreams. I was really hoping for this one due to their publications, but it's not meant to be. I think I'll be closing out another year with no hope for an admittance. Waiting for Brown and Virginia Tech, but acceptances have already gone out for them. 1a/0w/5r/2p. (1a is from a program with a funding waitlist with little movement). See everyone next year?

Dear Katelyn, The Creative Writing faculty has made its selections for incoming MFA candidates, and I am sorry to say that we cannot offer you a place in the program at this time. These decisions were more difficult than ever because of our commitment to being a fully funded program. In fact, this year the program could only admit 7 students out of more than 300 applicants. That means we have had to turn away very talented writers in the process. Please know that this decision is not a reflection on your work. We only have a handful spots to offer among the many excellent writers and applications we received. The volume of these makes it impossible for us to give commentary on application manuscripts, but our faculty reads every application with interest and diligence. These selections are challenging when we see so much promise out there. I wish you all the best with your writing and send my thanks for your interest in our program.

Found an automated email in my spam folder to check the ApplyWeb portal for the decision letter. I was assuming it was a rejection since that's usually what those kinds of emails mean. Right before I clicked on the decision letter, I saw a button next to it that said "complete your decision form" and thought "huh that's weird, haven't seen that before" but didn't make the connection at all. It turned out to be an acceptance letter. This is my fifth time applying to MFA programs; I was previously waitlisted at Brown in 2019.

I just happened to check the website this afternoon, and the committee posted a decision on the 4th.

Email from Matt Frank with acceptance, on the wait list for funding. A bit of a bummer since I thought they were fully funded for all accepted students, but he said the situation was "fluid," "unpredictable," and that he hopes to reach out with an offer of funding soon. Fingers crossed!
