I received the admission decision a week ago but I just got the assistantship awarded in a separate email. Apply with intent to do machine learning. A lot of relevant graduate cs classes and senior math classes with B and above. 1 current research project in an unrelated topic but possible applications to ml (active research field). 1 unpaid internship in my home country. 3 hackathons with products but no awards. 1 possible strong LOR, 2 ok LORs. ok SOP, dropped a lot of paper names and book names.

Submitted my application on the 7th of January. First-Class Honours in BSc Computer Science. Distinction in MSc Artificial Intelligence. Worked for two years as a Software Engineer.

Shocked! Thought had a good chance. Gpa 7.8 from tier 1, 324 GRE, 2 years work ex as DS at FAANG+, 1 paper in review. Strong LoRs. Must be GPA that hurt.
