To the post who indicates 4 full papers, congrats! but why did you not apply for PhD program?

To the poster below: yes.

Worked at MIT CSAIL for 6 months, four top conference full papers, two published (both oral). From a university outside US. GPA top 1% in university. Three very strong LoRs from both MIT and own university. TOEFL 114. Every admit is associated with tremendous pain, anxiety, ,desperation and 10 rejects plus a few ill-mannered discouragement behind the stage. Can you imagine, in such a XXXX game, how much disadvantage+unfairness a Chinese male student doing an undergrad outside US is experiencing?

Oh well.

HCP from a top tech company; took one NDO course, got an A. Strong LoRs incl one from an adjunct prof at Stanford, but none from my Undergrad (in Canada) which probably hurt me.

wow, totally unexpected, already have taken 25+ graduate CS Stanford credits all A or A+, 2 papers, 5+ years of work experience in ML. Bachelor non-CS major, GPA 3.8 . I guess they give too much weight to your bachelor, not much hope if not from top US CS schools. I will try another major next year. Good luck to all who go it.

Disappointed but not surprised.

Strong ECs but still mostly expected

Applied to HCP. 8 years work experience, Strong GRE, Good LOR. Have MSEE from UCLA, going for second part-time MSCS. Accepted by USC, waiting for GT. No Research papers. Had a average GPA at UCLA (3.3) but good UG GPA. No idea what kind of superheroes they are looking for.

Expected

8.45/10 CGPA from BITS (India) / 1xJournal Publication + 2xGSoC + 2xInternational Conference and an off-campus thesis abroad. Yet rejection was only a matter of time from the outset u_u

Applied to HCP, non-CS background, strong LORs, strong undergrad. Applied here and GT. GT asked for more info on my background and admitted me. Accepted their offer early on because they’ve been more personal. Have already been working with a professor with similar research interests.

GPA of 8.5/10 from top institute in India. Got the rejected mail this morning. Definitely lack of research papers cost me this admission.
