Our departmental faculty in the Department of Slavic Languages & Literatures at the University of Michigan have now finished reviewing applications to our graduate program for Fall 2025 admission. This application pool has been extremely competitive and after careful consideration, we have decided on what must necessarily be a short list of finalists for admission. Unfortunately, we find ourselves unable to make you an offer. Please understand that the very real constraints of limited funding and a relatively small job market in our field allow us to admit only a handful of students. Inevitably, we are forced to turn down many strong applicants. I very much hope that it will be possible for you to pursue your interests in graduate studies elsewhere next year and I wish you the very best in the future.

Email with rejection. No gre, no publications, over one year of research experience at a national lab. Had a lot of solid networking connections, so this was a little shocking and disappointing.
