Was told they're not accepting PhD candidates because of budget issues resulting from COVID. Got into Master's and will likely do that and re-apply to PhD next year.

I applied to Amherst, but they offered me a Master's program on Newton campus without assistantships.

Funny the UMass person posted today, I just got some email - "I am sorry to say that we will not be able to admit anyone from the wait list this year. Responses to our first round of offers were more positive than we'd anticipated and our entering fall class is now full."

Have any of you waitlisted folks heard back from UMass? I had emailed them some weeks ago and they told me the decision will be communicated after the deadline. Nothing apart from that has been communicated to me.

Did u contact Prof Young or Prof Gunnells? Is it only for the Pure stream?

Waitlisted (March 10) --> Not rejected yet (Apr 15) --> Rejected (after email inquiry). The grad director said, "I'm sorry but as it turns out we were unable to make any further offers after the [April 15] deadline, for financial reasons."

Any waitlisted candidate heard from UMass? Are we only going to hear back after the deadline tomorrow? Super confused :/

Anyone else get accepted? Is there a Facebook group or something for the incoming MCB program?

Applied to MS-PhD, got accepted as Masters. Not really what I wanted but ok

Applied for MS/PhD, a reject was long time coming. If it's true that they only consider their "strongest" PhD candidates for MS, like someone mentioned they got a mail stating the same yesterday, they should mention as such on their website. My whole application was based on the promise that my application will be properly evaluated for MS; that certainly didn't happen. This is conning of the highest level if you are going to be spreading misinformation about how your application process works. Their website seems to suggest that as long as you submit your GRE scores, your application will be given a good look for MS.
