Stoked! I am from a less well-known Canadian university (ranking 10+ in Canada). CGPA 3.94 standing top 5% I guess. Two years' research experience in machine learning and published two workshop papers.

Undergraduate degree from a mediocre Dutch university. Top of my cohort at both my current programme and the previous one. 1.5 years of research experience at non-FAANG company. Three strong LoRs, from which one used to be a lecturer at ETHZ. Many extracurricular positions, such as board memberships and roles within my university. No publications, but strong projects and research activities.

European student studying BSc Mathematics at a top 3-4 UK uni. Within top 5% of class, research experience in statistical learning during the summers but no publications. No GRE. I didn't think I would be accepted because my background is not CS, it was such a happy surprise! Good luck to everyone else!

First Class Math & Stats degree from one of the G5, 1+ year in the industry as a data analyst with projects and experiences in machine learning. Always heard that GPA matters a lot to them but didn't expect to this extent..

CS undergrad at a Chinese university. The rejection letter (PDF on portal) said the following: "Thank you very much for having applied to our University. We regret to inform you that your application to the Data Science MSc programme at ETH Zurich has not been successful. Attendance of this Master's degree programme presupposes basic and subject-specific knowledge and competences (discipline requirements profile). A very good performance in the preceding degree programme is also required. An examination of your dossier by the Admissions Committee of the degree programme indicates that your performance does not sufficiently fulfil the criteria set out in the discipline requirements profile." I think it could be because my background and finished courses don't sufficiently match the requirements of data science (my research experience is in computer systems). Best of luck to others.
