Congrats to all candidates who got admits! Very unhappy to see that people with much better research ac*men getting rejected! Seems like intern*l recommendations play the main game in CS grad school applications in the US. Its so unfair and similar to nep*tism. In the end, this will only affect these universities' research and ranking. Candidates who got rejected, dont lose hope. You have something better coming. Your research ability will make you glow much better in the future. I got rejects from UTCS, Stanford, CMU, UW, Cornell. Undergrad from tier 1 institute in my country. 3 Very strong letters. 3 papers. 1 nips and 2 first author papers. 4 research internships at tier 1 institutes in US and my country. Semester internship at top class industrial research lab.

To the people who got accepted (particularly in AI/ML) can you please share what you think got you in? There are people with 5+ first author top conference papers and 100s of citations who didn't get in, so I am just curious as to what it takes?

Thought I had a shot..8 papers..2 Journals..6 conference..3 Strong LOR's..

860 citations. 4 first author top-tier conference papers + 9 other papers. 3 strong recommendation letters. Master's from top 4. Undergrad from outside of the US. no interview.

TPPB: I think the committee did the first-round cut, throwing away most of the applicants' materials

No interview. Did they really review all applications? Doubt it!

Had good interview with POI. Applied with masters from top-4 cs school. 7 papers (10 if you include in review) at ACL/EMNLP/NAACL/NeurIPS. Have strong LoRs. A lot of industry experience. At this point, what does it even take to get into Stanford...

Had an interview with poi, and thought the interview went well, but got rejected. Have several publications including top-tier conference 1st-author papers. Area: RL.
