interviewed 2day with three faculty & department--hoping it went well ucla would be da dream

PLEASE SAY NO TO UCLA IF YOU DONT WANT TO ATTEND!!!

We hope this message finds you in safety and good health. We appreciate your continued interest in UCLA’s Department of Anthropology PhD program and the time taken to apply. After careful consideration, we are unable to make an offer of admission at this time but would like to offer you a place on our waitlist. We have more highly-qualified applicants than we can admit every year and were especially impressed with your application, but our goal of providing a financial support package to admitted applicants limits the number of offers we can make at one time and results in the use of a waitlist. We will send you a status update as soon as possible and no later than April 15, 2025. Our waitlist is not ranked. We know that you are weighing very difficult decisions about your plans for the future. If, for any reason, you no longer wish to remain on the waitlist between now and April 15, please inform the Department’s Graduate Advisor.

Absolutely shocked to be getting this fantastic news from UCLA as I didn't interview with them! One of the faculty members reached out to me with an unofficial acceptance letter and said that I would be getting the official acceptance letter from the division of graduate education shortly.

No interview, just an email with a congratulations. Studying syntax.
