Hep-th. Generic rejection letter.

I applied to more than 20 schools. Only 3 remained undeclared; others all rejected me. Hep-th, very tough year. I am not sure what these schools want the applicants of Hepth to be. I have consulted around 5 professors in hepth, especially in string theory, about graduate application preparation. One of them told me to take challenging courses and get good grades, but research is unnecessary. Another one told me to find any possible research to do. Most professors I consulted just told me to learn GR and QFT, and undergraduate research in theoretical high energy is not generally possible. They also suggested me to expand my field of interest, because the positions for string theory are always limited. I have taken graduate math courses including algebraic topology and differentiable manifold to prepare for the research because I saw many papers use them. However, one professor I consulted told me a little differential geometry is enough for the sub-direction of string theory he is doing. It seems the preparation really depends on the specific sub-direction, but the competition for such a limited position is too fierce. I will also apply to some master of math or physics programs. Whatever, good luck to everyone.

Having already posted one time before. If someone admitted to JHU has already got better offers, I'm wondering could you please decline the JHU offer? I would appreciate it so much! JHU is my last hope .

CMT; Feeling a little bit confused, because the supervisor on the offer letter is not one of my POI.

Physics GPA 3.84, 6 Months of HEP-ex research, one grad school class in machine/deep learning, two independent studies. Last result from universities. 4a/5r. I have officially committed to my school and rejected the other offers.

I was put in a "very short" waitlist in early Feb, but then heard nothing from them.

Email to check the portal. QIS/AMO. Two line generic rejection letter. This was the most awaited rejection. Finally got a closure. But this is really disappointing and I'm really sad.

physics is literally a trade at this point. if i wanted to memorize meaningless jargon i would have become a plumber. also they make the field as inaccessible as possible & then ask how we'll help make it inclusive in the application... ultra bruh moment

Generic rejection letter. At least they showed the courtesy to reject. Other universities have slept, I guess.
