IMHO the interview went great, but the interviewer mentioned a lot of applicants and a small number of places and that the decision will be made at the end of February. Hoping for the best.

Informal acceptance by POI on Feb 10th. Received official letter today!

Rejected from PhD, got in for MS

With regret, we must inform you that the Committees on Admission were unable to accept you for admission to the Coordinated Doctoral Program in Biomedical Sciences. The task of selecting an entering class from among so many superior applicants is a difficult one. It is never a pleasant assignment to inform an applicant of an unfavorable decision, but we are encouraged by the knowledge that most of our applicants gain admissions to other fine graduate schools. We hope that this will be true for you and wish you success.

Emailed them to request information on my application. Got an automated email to check website a couple of hours later (no clue if timing was related to my email). The website waitlist notice said: "The Astronomy Admissions Committee admitted only a small fraction of applicants this year. The responses to our initial offers of admission are being monitored closely, and we anticipate that a final decision on your application will be made around April 15."

Email from POI to schedule interview.

Emailed the department and told rejected. The results will be sent out by the end of this week. Said they were only able to accommodate less than 2 percent of the applicants...

I have a first-class degree. Was surprised by the result but UBC philosophy doesn't appear to waitlist students--may be wrong though. Looking at the admissions stats, UBC phil seems to accept VERY few students. Also seems like UBC prefers philosophy of mind/science students.

TPB: during the interview, they told me there would be second round interview in a few weeks as they don't want to send offer too early before 4/15
