Finally worked up the nerve to inquire and was told I'd made their wait list

Emailed about my status and was told that I had been wait listed.

I was actually accepted but I am choosing to go to a much smaller school. I haven’t heard anything after I declined the offer and I’m hoping that someone else will get my spot, it’s not like they don’t have enough people applying there. Also Syracuse and Naropa waitlisted people for poetry should be hearing back soon I hope. Hope this helps and best of luck again!

Well, OSU's low residency program is fairly new (est. in 2013) so it seems like it doesn't get nearly as much attention as the full residency program. Bend is lovely so those who were rejected from the Corvallis campus should consider it (I lived in Corvallis for a year and would probably prefer Bend, just saying). They extended the application date even further so they may not have gotten too many applications this year. If you are in dire straits, you should definitely apply to OSU-Cascades!!! My acceptance e-mail was extremely flattering and I feel a bit bad that I already accepted an offer elsewhere, but I truly don't think the low-residency option is for me, and I've always hoped to continue my education in NYC rather than the west coast, where I've lived all my life. Here's hoping my slot goes to someone here who may have lost hope! You still have a shot, believe me. Plus, T. Geronimo Johnson is awesome and I'm sure would be a great instructor to have.

rejected off waitlist. yikes

Boston sent me three rejection emails. I guess I didn’t get in but can’t be sure. Need more emails to confirm. 0a/ 7r/ 1p I may have overused the term “stink-butt” in my sample, statemants, and transcripts.

I'm pretty sad. I was waitlisted last year and rejected May 5th 2017. I was encouraged to apply again, did so and am now not even waitlisted. I know it's a competitive program but I feel miffed. I hope the people who got in go and love it--if not there are many who would have been happy to take your place...

To the responder, I believe I mentioned the irony about the frost quote. The irony is that people think it’s positive that he chose the path... he said different. That’s what I’m saying. It’s different, I don’t think it’s a better choice, for me maybe; but for others there is no way of knowing. Maybe I did overthink everything. I am in a whirlwind of thought, but thats what applications do to us, they make us crazy... but it’s beautiful! This is not an argument just a clarification of my novel I typed. Best of luck to you as well! And I am still hoping that whoever was waitlisted gets to experience such a great school.

The deadline for submission was December 15. The cost of applying was $70. And I am just now hearing a decision. Almost a week into April. Cool.

Wow, I am such a piece of shit that I got declined from my mediocre safety school with a 75% acceptance rate. 0a/6r/3p. I've reached the point of logically thinking through the option of killing myself.

To the person inquiring about my “interesting reason” and my “ambivalence”, I’ll say this: my goal is to always be true to what makes my writing, MY writing. Certain scenarios pose a threat to my writing. Such as: going from urban areas where there are children who need good teachers, to going to rural Iowa where they are “Midwest nice”. It’s not about the school name or what they could offer as far as career; I write for fulfillment. There is something more rewarding than getting published in poetry magazine and having a book in the Yale series, those goals and many others can be accomplished anywhere if you are a good enough writer. But Iowa as great of a school as it is, does not have urban kids who could use some help. My ambivalence does not stem from me thinking I am too good, in fact it is in a lot of ways the exact opposite. What if instead of doing something for myself... I decided to help someone else out by staying where I am, going to a smaller school and teaching children different ways out of poverty other than athletics and entertainment; meanwhile honing my craft with the poets who are not as well known but they are accomplished in their own right. It was by no means an easy decision, but someone like you or whoever else is waitlisted will get an opportunity to chase after their dreams. My dreams are not better nor are they more novel, they are simply mine... I could not fit 2-3 years away from where I am into accomplishing my true dream, which is to help. I wish all who attend Iowa and other schools the best of luck, and I think we are all doing what we were made to do. Two roads diverged in a wood, and I chose the one less traveled and that has made all the difference. The funny thing about that frost quote is that he never said the other path was better, worse, longer, shorter; he just said it was different. I’m different, my path is different... but that’s the beauty of the possessive noun... MY path, is mine.

I'm not sure how/when others have gotten an email. I checked for days and saw nothing and when I checked (for the fifth time) the online applicationthe status finally changed to waitlisted. So just a word of warning, notification may not actually appear in your email.

The terse form rejection coupled with how late it took them to notify applicants makes me feel significantly more confident about my decision to accept a wonderful, fully funded offer. Not feeling fuzzy about Purdue (also NC State and Indiana University--cutting it really close for those applicants who are in the midst of tough decisions and university deadlines)
