Email to check website. Definitely expected as this was just for potential funding bartering. Cited not so competitive SOP and lack of background preparing me for advanced study in Cultural Studies, which is pretty true. I do take issue with their dry, sober voice in all admissions-related prose. It comes off as elitist and condemning. Coupled with what they themselves acknowledge as a poorly funded and un-centralized department, you'd think they'd at least pretend toward congeniality.

I received an email from Kip Kosek stating that the department is still sorting out funding, but they found my application very impressive and may make me an offer. I also received an invitation to a recruitment event.

Was not accepted at Berkeley, but accepted at other HB/ANE and NELC programs.

Received an email to check the portal. No word on funding or a campus visit yet. Very excited!!

Was pretty bummed to get this rejection. I felt I had a solid chance at getting accepted. Four years living in Southern Mexico and doing some work with a nonprofit there. So far 1 acceptance and 1 rejection. Congrats to those who get accepted!
