Got rejected from the Ph.D. program, but invited to switch my application over to their masters program. Said that most applicants already had a masters or extensive post bachelors experience.

"Although we are not offering you an interview at the present time, we would like to place your name on our wait list for further review pending the outcome of the initial interviews. Interviews will take place February 9 and we will let you know by February 23 if we are going to do another round of interviews."

Called and they confirmed that interview invitations had been sent.

Waitlisted by email, the email stated that I will hear more information by next week

Missed phone call 1/17, received a phone call again from a faculty 1/18. Interview date 2/5

Put in the "hold" category. "We are inviting approximately 20 applicants to interview, and have approximately 20 on hold. We were impressed with your application but unfortunately cannot invite every strong applicant to interview." I give Auburn an A+++ for their graciousness in this email.

Received an invitation to interview via email from the training coordinator. NMSU on-campus interviews are Feb. 9th and Feb. 19th or via Skype/phone.

Re: the poster asking if it is a mass email or a POI. I believe the email comes from the chair. Before I applied for the program, I contacted a professor via email and she informed me that during the admission, it is not a specific professor choosing his/her students because the students are not assigned to a specific mentor during the first year. Hope this info is useful.
