Ignore the waitlist. Is there really no admit to the master's program? how is this even possible?

A waste of money, 155 $

After such a long wait! Sweet Sweet Victory. After many update requests from my side, they asked me for some clarifications about my current academic program. I clarified everything in detail, and got my acceptance 3 days later. Super grateful and pumped. Yay!

Apparently, the department makes a decision first and then suggests it to FGSR. Vouch from the professors helps but Department makes the final decisions. I had two interviews with two different professors - one in Nov 2022 and another in Feb 2023. The first prof vouched for me, by the grace of God; but the second prof was indifferent to recruit me.

Saw the portal first. THe email came 12 hours after the portal was updated. Also got rejected by Simon Fraser the day before. Well....

I should have expected this since I've been on the waitlist for over a month lol

International student with undergrad degree from the US. 2 publications (one outside of CS, one for a data science workshop), 2 years of undergrad AI research, 2.5 years of work experience as a software/machine learning engineer. Checked portal for update.

Upon receipt of this form, you will then have the ability to complete the mandatory video interview in your status portal. Your application will be reviewed for the MS program upon completion of both the form and the video interview

Received an acceptance to the MScAC program. technical interview happened on 22nd April. Stats- 9.01 GPA from a not-so-well-known uni in India. 1 conference paper in Springer (co-author), 1.5 YoE in an MNC, 2 internships, No GRE.

I contacted the PI prior and got really positive feedback, applied and got no news until rejection in portal. I personally feel betrayed since I could not even afford the application fee (international student). I feel now they generally say apply to "everyone" to they can make enough money (otherwise, I spend days preparing/talking to them, the least they could do was to explain my rejection in more details). I mean, you know my application quality, why bother giving hope to those who are barely holding and not even privileged enough to apply to many schools (due to application fee). Ngl, I just want to say fuck you UofT.
