To the poster below, I applied for structures and I haven't heard anything back! The website says decisions will be emailed the week of March 1. I also learned from another MIT applicant (fluid mechanics track) that the first round of rejection letter has already been sent out about two weeks ago.

Six out of 8 applications rejected so far. I knew it was a long shot on account of my age. To all those accepted into *any* sociology program, whether first choice or not: Please make your time and training count, for yourself and for society. The number of jobs that can support a middle-class lifestyle and allow one to grow intellectually have fallen precipitously even in the 20 years since I received my BA from Columbia. Hiring practices are becoming dumber. The squeeze grows ever tighter. So take the skills and knowledge and convert them to real-world influence. Effect change. Ave, morituri te salutant.

Put on waitlist with ~40 people

Makes it easier to decide between my other offers, so in a weird way it's a slight relief, but at the same time it would have been awesome to go here. Good luck everybody!

Yeah. This sucks.

Generic email from Director of Graduate Studies and Academic Administrator (STS): "We are sorry to inform you that we will not be able to offer you admission to the doctoral program in History, Anthropology, and Science, Technology and Society (HASTS) at MIT. This year we received 147 applications and we only could only grant interviews to 12% of the applicants for an even smaller number of slots. Please note that the committee is unable to provide feedback on individual applications. Your application was given careful consideration and although we are not able to offer you admission, the committee would like to thank you for your interest in the program and wish you the very best in your future endeavors. "

Generic reply: less than 12%... (exactly the same as last year!)

IT IS WELL!

It is expectd but I still wanna cry

Top 5 undergrad, 2 start-ups, 1 published conference paper, won numerous engineering and entrepreneurship awards. Hope this is the only reject and best of all to all admitted! 3a/1r/0w/5p

Confirming that the acceptances to MIT for DUSP Masters are not trolls. At least I am not. I got a call from a faculty member from the concentration within the dept to which I indicated interest in my application. I first got a call on 2-28 but missed it. The faculty called back on 3-1.

Unique military background, 3 years of research, co-founder of 2 successful student aerospace groups, but no publications. ME Major, CSE minor, AE concentration from a mid-ranked major state university.

Can confirm these posts are not trolls. Unless the call with a decision was not a professor, but in fact someone trolling us.

Less than 12% admit rate. Sad, but congrats to all who were admitted!

@comments below - yeah, it also seems like they send acceptances (phone call) the same day as rejections? Haven't received anything Do we have some trolls claiming acceptance? Awfully cruel to the folks waiting
