I am one of the finalists and I can't understand how someone can be recjeted after events in which we barely talk (class observation in which we are not required/requested to speak), informal chats with grad students and chat with professors from other departments... Will professors from other departments evaluate us? This seems weird. Anyway, one can only guess...

TTPB: Yes, 2 acceptances, that's for sure. I also thought it was absurd. I don't know if there will be only 2 finalists or if the finalists can still be rejected, since I only received casual feedback on my own application, but I'd suspect it's the latter. I had an interview with POI and the support was one of the strongest I had (or so I thought). And may I add: I had also received a Fulbright Scholarship, so the application was already pre-funded – that's the main reason for my disapointment with the rejection. I'm wishing you good luck in any case.

Saw some people were approved here, got in contact with POI. He said there were 100+ applications and there will only be 2 approvals. Finalists have already been decided apparently. Expected but still kinda sad. My stats: GPA 8.5/10 (undergraduate), 3/3 (masters); TOEFL 114; GRE 164 verbal, 5.5 writing; strong recs including one star-system prof. It is what it is.

compbio; direct email from POI who I also interviewed with (very positive); email seems like it was tailored for compbio area admits so acceptance emails probably are coming out at diff times from diff faculty (got mine ~12pm US central)

Are there other colleagues selected as finalists? The virtual visit is only on March, so acceptances/rejections will not come untill then?

Answering the one below: Got interviewed in the interview weekend (1/28-2/2), but still no response. Unfortunately, if you didn't get invited for interview, it is almost 100% certain a rejection.
