Your application for admission to study at Stanford has been reviewed by the Admissions Committee in the Economics Department. I regret to report that we cannot admit you to our graduate program. As you know, the Department gets many more applications from qualified candidates than we can accept given our financial resources and space restrictions. Consequently, each year many strong candidates must be turned down. Regretfully, we cannot provide individual feedback on applications which were not accepted into our program. I can only assure you that all files were read by the admissions committee and decisions were made with care.

TTPB: The interview offer came from the department for me, not a specific PI. Included a link to schedule an interview with 3 different PI's. I'm going into devices/circuits. 3.88/4.0 UG GPA. Pretty good research experience and (at least I hope) strong LORs. But no published work.

Chinese undergrad, letter writers from top US departments, with good connection. Not sure whether this year is particularly tough for internationals, but still hopeful for the rest of the season. Congrats to those admitted!
