Dear [applicant], I regret to inform you that after evaluating a very strong cohort of applicants, the Faculty Committee on Admissions for the PhD program in Statistics is unable to offer you admission to that program. I know that this is unpleasant news. Unfortunately, admissions committees must base their decisions on materials that reduce unique individuals such as you to the components of their applications dossier. Nevertheless, I can assure you that your application received the most careful consideration, and that the committee made this decision after much deliberation. I wish you success in your future career, and thank you for having given us the opportunity to consider you for admission to Columbia.

Unofficial rejection from department coordinator. Rejected after attending the interview. Offered me MS instead. Thought had a great conversation with one Pi. Also talked to one grad student in the lab who said "I am on the right track". Well I guess the joke's on me. Very disappointed. This school just wants more money!

Cautiously optimistic
