I don't understand this. Had good letters of recommendation & Top 2% from to German university

I didn't receive any email that I'm shortlisted and haven't yet been invited to the symposium, but a POI mentioned in the application scheduled an interview.

Very good gre scores (quantitative 168, verbal 158, aw 3.5), 3.9 GPA, Excellence path, two medium strength recommendation letters. A few medals in national programming/maths competitions. Honestly surprised, thought I had no chance against people from top universities with published papers. Don't forget, all that glitters is not gold. Never lose hope!
