Got an email saying to check portal (for an obvious rejection) for my admission decision. I agree with the post below, pretty rude letter that they couldn't even manage to put in an automatic email and send out. Not sad about not attending this program after the language that has been used in their communications and even in their website.

Is anyone accepted to New Writers Project for fiction planning on going elsewhere? Also, is there anything to be done while waiting to hear back from a wait list school? I know in some instances people send additional materials or letters stating their interest in a program, but idk if that's really a thing for MFA programs. I was told the wait list is not ranked and I want to do anything I can that might help my chances of getting in, but obviously don't want to annoy them. Thanks!

A pretty rude rejection email. Interim Dean: " the faculty of the program to which you applied (Creative Writing - MFA - Fiction) has not recommended your admission...I support their decision and therefore cannot offer you admission." COOL. Good to know you support their decision!

In reference to the poster below: is anyone here genuinely in pursuit of becoming rich and famous or are you in pursuit of improving your craft as a writer/joining a writing community? I hope that post is a joke. MFA programs vary by rank, but they also vary in what type of writing they focus on. I’m not going to a top ten program, but I’m going to a program that emphasizes on the subject matter that aligns with what I write along with authors I admire. A visiting professor at my sub-par undergrad school who is a very successful writer gave the advice that 1) you don’t even need an MFA to write, the emphasis is on community and 2) go somewhere you will enjoy in terms of content, location, funding, and faculty. As long as you do well and your writing is good, you will most likely make it far.

To all the "other" posters below (and everyone else) - what is a better choice (and let's leave funding now out of the equation) - a mid/low level full residency program or a top ten low residency program? I have three criteria: finish my novel, become a good writer, and perhaps apply for a PhD program later.

I figured as much when people were posting acceptances into this program a month ago. Thankfully I already have a wonderful funded offer. This season is a wrap for me! 2a/1w/9r. To future applicants looking in these archives: It really is all about fit. Nine schools rejected me, but the one who wants me REALLY wants me and offered me a secondary scholarship to get me, and as far as I'm concerned these other 9 schools can get bent. Find the school that will fit you and your writing and wants you like you want them. That might not be the best program or the most popular one or the one with the most prestige, but maybe all of that stuff doesn't matter as much as we want it to. Good luck to all!
