Thank you for applying to the University of Virginia’s Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing Program, but I am sorry to tell you that we cannot offer you a place this year. It’s a difficult business, selecting so few manuscripts from so many fine submissions. I wish I had better news for you. In the coming week, you will receive a more formal, computer-generated response from the Graduate School admissions system, but I hope this earlier response from me gives you more time to make other plans. I wish you good luck with your writing in the future.

No info on placement. If anyone isn't planning on attending, please let them know :)

Accepted, but was told no incoming students were funded. And, the only second year students funded were in fiction.

To previous poster: I got my application in a day before the deadline and was accepted at the end of February so I don't think that has much to do with it. You're probably on the "unofficial waitlist", as wave after wave of accepted New School applicants decline to attend schools which offer a reasonable amount of funding. There's a good chance they'll make it to you... though paying $80,000 dollars to spend 2 years at the least selective MFA program in the country might not be the wisest career move.

Notified via email because I live abroad

To my comrades below, I'm with you. It stings. 11 rejections. 3 to go. So much money. So much time. Keeping fingers crossed for the last of em', although, Irvine looks grim. Best of luck to all who's still got a few to go. If anyone has plan B ideas, please tell me because I'm at a loss. "jforms" is my name in the forums. Farewell!
