Generic e-mail: "Thank you for your application to the University of Washington Graduate School. On behalf of the University of Washington Information School and the Ph.D. Admissions Committee thank you very much for your interest in the doctoral program and for your application. After careful consideration of your application, I regret to inform you that we are unable to offer you admission to our program. On behalf of the Admissions Committee, thank you again for considering the University of Washington Information School. I wish you the very best in your future endeavors." I am an international student, I have 1 year of professional research experience ( first publication coming in 2020), 3 years of professional work experience, MA degree (4.0 GPA, valedictorian). That said, my GRE scores were awful except for AWA which was 5/6. I suspect these don't matter as much as speaking with a professor beforehand (they recommended it but I was unable to do so for personal reasons). I assume that as long as you have an idea for a research project that matches the prof's interests, you should be okay :) best of luck to everyone who was invited to an interview! Wishing you all the best.
