Email from the Graduate Admissions Chair 0a/1r/6p

We regret to inform you that the Graduate Program in American Culture at the University of Michigan is unable to offer you a place in our 2022-23 class. This year, we received a particularly strong pool of applicants and are only able to admit a limited number of applicants. With so many talented and interesting students applying, we based our final decisions on factors beyond mere quality, including the fit between applicant research interests and our program's strengths and the need to maintain balance among the various disciplines and interdisciplinary fields represented in the Department of American Culture.

CP, an "unofficial chat" with one member I mentioned in my SoP, plus one DGS person in CP.
