Ignore status. Has anyone heard back from any hard science programs? Portal still says Application Submitted and no updates.

Received email from advisor on 1/14 indicating I was accepted with funding still being figured out. Follow up on 2/12 confirmed acceptance. Still have not received official letter, but expected soon. 1 solo author publication, 3 conference poster presentations, frequent sci comm speaker, 10 year history of working in the field. 4.0 Masters GPA, large gap between Masters and UG (~9 years) and 5 year gap between Masters and beginning PhD.

The initial and secondary reviews of Fall 2025 applications has now been completed. In your specific case, the application received generally positive reviews and scores, but unfortunately, your scores were not sufficiently high enough to move forward to the next phase of our process. We receive a very high number of strong applications, so our process is highly competitive. Many other applications scored below yours and those will be declined in the next few days. For now, while the rest of the admissions process plays out, your application will remain part of a stand-by group, not moved forward but not declined either. We will keep your application in reserve, and we may or may not reach out to you later in the admissions process should we have slots that are unfilled by ~mid-May.

Admission does not guarantee funding for this program according to the program website and confirmed by director. Only a few TA/GA positions available. But how do you expect an international student to self-fund their PhD in such a research-intensive program? Ain't no free labour for you this time!
