Booo their loss. I’ll thrive elsewhere

Thank you for submitting your application to the Political Science PhD program at Stanford University. At this time, we have placed you on a waitlist for admission to our program. We had many more highly qualified and impressive applicants than we were able to admit this year, so our admissions committee has selected a very small group to comprise an unranked waitlist. While we are unable to extend an offer of admission to you at this time, you were among the best of our applicants and we hope that we will be able to offer you admission at a later date. The timing of our final admissions decision will depend upon when we hear from the students already admitted. Often we don’t hear decisions from admitted students until the April 15 response deadline, so we may not be able to give you a final decision about your waitlist status until that date. Once we have heard from the majority of the admitted students, we will begin contacting waitlisted candidates directly. In the meantime, if you decide to accept an offer from another institution or do not want to remain on our waitlist, please let us know so that we can remove you from the list.

Email to check the portal. IR subfield. It's a tough day, 3rd rejection for today.... At least I already have 1 amazing acceptance, but I hope the future holds better news. 1A/0W/5R/7P (from which 1 is probably a silent rejection)

IR. International undergrad, US master’s. GPA is grad.

Email to check portal

No email, just checked the portal bc so many decisions came out today 1a/2r/5p

PE, Umich Ug, thesis award, top 15 journal's R&R, email to check portal

Got a kind letter informing I’m on the waitlist.

Columbia may or may not have been my Alma Mater. I’m going to Cambridge anyway, but I do think think they rejected some very qualified candidates this year, so don’t be too upset about it!

Got an email notification :(

GPA is graduate, overall a bad fit. No interview

No email, just checked the portal because people posted their decisions here. A day of bad news :( I actually thought the fit was good, so a bit sad, though I already have an acceptance to an equally good program.

No email, checked the portal randomly

Lucky enough to be in a position where I have a really good offer from somewhere comparable, but this one does sting, especially since the fit was the best out of any program that I applied to by far. It's a tough process, especially this year.
