Ignore waitlist. This is a f***ing rant. I am an international student and graduated from a top school in my country. I was sure that even if I got a near-perfect UG GPA, I would not get a Ph.D. offer from the big 4. My undergrad uni is not big on research. Therefore, my approach was to compromise on my GPA and write stellar papers with the top CS schools in the US during my undergr. Then, go for MS to compensate for my GPA. This would result in me having both a 4/4 GPA and top-tier papers. I did everything right. I got the papers. I got the letters. FAIR labs improved my UG paper and wrote another paper. I got a perfect GPA during MS. I positioned my profile in an emerging research direction to reduce the competition. I got a scientist offer from the industry from FAANG. I am not able to comprehend why the f*** I did not get a single interview at any school in this cycle. F*** my life. | ||||

PL. T10 UG, 2 years research exp, 1 year pre-doctoral research at Google, 4 publications including 2 conf, 1 first-author, interviewed in mid Jan with non-POI. Interview revolved mostly around prior research and fit with department, I think what worked most for me was my memory of the fact that in 1998, The Undertaker threw Mankind off Hell In A Cell, and plummeted 16 ft through an announcer's table. | ||||
