Kind of sad, but you win some you lose some! 3 years inorganic research, 5 ACS presentations, 1 publication (3rd author), but 1st author publication in prep. Goldwater, too. Good luck everyone!

Applied for Organic Chemistry. 3 years of research experience, 1 industry internship. 5 conference presentations with one first prize award, no publications (2 in preparation). 3 strong letters of recommendation. No GRE Subject exam, above average GRE General exam. Goldwater. A few other fellowships and university/national awards.

Masters from UK with Distinction (GPA: 4/4). 2 years research experience, drafting publication. 4 excellent LORs. Not really bummed because it was reach.

AMO experiment. I mentioned the professor in my application but I am not sure whether he is representing the committee or not. two LORs from the professors that have connection with MIT. One publication in arxiv and under review. The email goes like the following: we have reviewed your application for admission to the MIT Physics graduate study program, and are very impressed with your accomplishments. The admission process includes the possibility of awarding a departmental fellowship for the first year of graduate studies, or a research assistantship. Both would provide a full stipend and tuition. Before making the final decision for admission, I would like to talk to you about MIT, research opportunities at MIT, and your background and interest. I would like to schedule this interview preferably on the weekend, or on Monday, and use Skype for it. Let's plan for about 30 minutes.
