Has anyone heard anything from Penn material science or chemical engineering yet?

There goes my last hope.

Accepted to better schools anyway. Why did they have to wait for so long? (hep-ex)

UPenn's groups are well funded and doing well. Don't bother listening to angry comments here on gradcafe talking bad about any particular top school for physics. UPenn's Physics attrition rate is relatively low compared to other schools, indicating student satisfaction. In general, most top places have funding. A particular group might be tight on money due to accepting too many students or a grant not getting approved, but I would assume it's rare as professors at most places generally only accept students if they think they would be able to fund the student. The suggestion that all/most of the groups are underfunded at any top place is a joke. Also, UPenn already had their Open House and sent out their initial acceptances. I am guessing they are waiting for those people to accept or decline before sending out the rest of the decisions. Good luck to all. In general, just visit the places you get accepted to and ask the professors about funding and all of that. They will usually tell you their situation and if they plan to take/fund new students.

TTPB: What do you mean the financial state of UPenn is bad? Is it normally that way there? Share if you have some information.

Also received an email saying I am waitlisted to the second round. Crossing my fingers that a spot opens up and is offered to me. This is my first choice! Congrats to everyone who was accepted :)

Grad student I had been in contact with sent me an apology for encouraging me to apply. Said the financial state of her group was worse than she thought and she said sorry for wasting my money. I still haven't heard officially from the department. Hep ex

Got an email saying I am waitlisted to the second round of April 20th- I have accepted another offer elsewhere, so I will be removing myself. Hope this helps someone! (although i don’t know my rank on the waitlist)

TTPB: I also applied for CMT and haven't got an answer yet.

Anyone hasn't heard from UPenn so far? My fields of interest are CMT/HET.
