No GRE, no interview, met with one faculty member in December for nonlinear dynamics

Met with 2 faculty in hep-ex and PER last fall, no GRE, no interview.

Dear Applicant, Thank you for the time, effort, and passion you put into your application to the UCSC Physics graduate program. There is a person behind every application, statement of purpose, and letter of recommendation, and we truly appreciate the effort you contributed applying to our program. That is what makes it challenging to inform you we are unable to recommend you for admission for this coming fall. This was a difficult decision for our committee for two reasons: 1) this year’s applicant pool was exceptionally talented, and the level of research experience and academic dedication we saw was genuinely humbling; and 2) due to department funding and faculty research capacity we are simply unable to recommend offers of admission to all researchers we believe would thrive here. This decision is a reflection of our departmental constraints, not a reflection of your potential as a physicist. There are many paths towards scientific inquiry, and we hope you continue pursuing your interests in physics research. Understandably, many applicants ask us for feedback on their applications to see how they can improve in the future. Please understand due to the sheer number of requests we receive the committee is unable to provide comment on any individual's application. Interviewed with potential PI and graduate admissions panel member on 02/17; 1 pre-print co-author publication and 1 first author in prep. publication, 3.5 years of research experience including one REU. I'm so excited this was one of my top choices :):):):):)
