Bye bye MIT.. 4 SCI Journal (3 of them: 1st author), 15 International Conference, Moderate/Good GPA, Several Academic/Industrial Awards, 5 Years Experience in the relevant domain.

Not surprising but seems like they made up their minds weeks ago and let the process drag out for no reason

I copy: "No email notification, but checked website since others have said they had decisions even though they had not received an email. Checked and there was a message saying I could not be offered admission" -- Let me add: MIT EECS's application web was/is a cheap as hell; like all basic html.

Well, it seems less known universities are a strong cut off, since recs (1) and journal papers from MIT, as well as a reasonable (3.8) gpa with honors, let alone a focused (and maybe humble) SoP do not appeal to them. But a "black or white" admission policy doesn't model all the colors in the real world ...

To those who got rejected. The admission process at the EECS department is a bit non-sense, at the least in the area of micro/nano they don't have much to offer, but still it is very funny to see that they reject people who have paper in science, nature, advanced materials, etc (published in their master studies). I know people who had those papers and got rejected !!! I will leave it to you guys to make conclusion about the admission process !! :))

Largely expected. It's not like I've really done anything or stood out beyond more so than the rest of the crowd; good grades and research experience, as well as industrial experience, are largely meaningless, especially if you have no patents or connections. Plus I come from a no-name undergraduate, so it's not like I have a good shot anyway.

Expected, but it hurts. Will apply again after 2 years for a PhD :) Good luck to those who got in.
