Four rejections in one day: Princeton, Michigan, Columbia, and Stanford. With no acceptances nor waitlists, I fear my graduate school journey is shortly coming to an end. Would you believe it if I told you this is my second application cycle? Congrats to everyone who got in, seems like an extremely competitive year!

Thank you for submitting your application to the Political Science PhD program at Stanford University. At this time, we have placed you on a waitlist for admission to our program. We had many more highly qualified and impressive applicants than we were able to admit this year, so our admissions committee has selected a very small group to comprise an unranked waitlist. While we are unable to extend an offer of admission to you at this time, you were among the best of our applicants and we hope that we will be able to offer you admission at a later date. The timing of our final admissions decision will depend upon when we hear from the students already admitted. Often we don’t hear decisions from admitted students until the April 15 response deadline, so we may not be able to give you a final decision about your waitlist status until that date. Once we have heard from the majority of the admitted students, we will begin contacting waitlisted candidates directly. In the meantime, if you decide to accept an offer from another institution or do not want to remain on our waitlist, please let us know so that we can remove you from the list.

Columbia may or may not have been my Alma Mater. I’m going to Cambridge anyway, but I do think think they rejected some very qualified candidates this year, so don’t be too upset about it!
