To the poster below: I applied during the second week of December

The poster below accepted to ECE in UCLA, when did you apply?

Had applied to the MS/PhD in Signals and Systems. Accepted into the Masters ECE program. PhD decisions later. Confirmed my hunch that they were processing files based on submission date (future applicants apply early!) . Profile: Final year undergrad from India (NIT), with significant research experience in signal processing.

Anybody still making a decision here? Those of us on the waitlist would be super appreciative if we could get our official rejections/acceptances before April 15 :)

Dear all: Thanks for all the updates from both masters/phd students. I have been waitlisted 5 times in the past two years for PhD film/cinema/media studies programs so this is what I personally know. No news is great news. Same thing happened to me at Cal-Berk last year (no accepted/rejected) so I called and was told about the waitlist. For those of us on the PhD waitlist, the majority of the programs wait until April 15 to finalize who has accepted or declined, after that, each program (so I've been informed by Cal, Texas, USC) will reevaluate the waitlisted applicants and "re-rank" them according to fit and POI availability. As I mentioned before, I feel like I'm a pro-waitlister at this point in my academic career. Best of luck to everyone. Thanks for all the comments and useful info.

To the poster asking why I'd choose Gatech over UCLA,well I'm struggling myself with the question! I'm very concerned about the quarter system in UCLA, as opposed to the semester system at Gatech, as I'm more used to the latter. I'm also very interested in the biomedical field, and that is said to be one of the best at Gatech. At the same time, the courses at UCLA for my track seem to be a better fit! Not to mention location and job opportunities. But I'm told that it really doesn't make too much of a difference after you graduate. But yeah, I think the Quarter system is what is holding me back. As for Michigan VS UCLA, I guess the most important thing is fit? I feel they are equally good in terms of rankings...it depends on funding and what kind of specialization you are looking for. If it's signals and systems, I'd recommend UCLA, but I think Michigan is really famous for embedded, in which case I'd suggest you go for that. In any case, there is no right choice, and I'm sure you'd be very successful no matter what you choose. Good luck!

I e-mailed the dept this morning asking if they plan to give decisions before April 15th: "We will likely send the final batch of admissions decisions after April 15."..... I'm guessing no one else has heard anything?

It’s so strange to have heard absolutely nothing at this point in time, and April 20th seems very late...oh well, we can only wait. I hope you get good news, best of luck! If any PhD candidates have additional info about hearing from the program, I would greatly appreciate it.

Hi All, I haven’t received any notification at all--rejected/waitlisted/accepted--but reading below, I see that some people have already received messages about being waitlisted. Any advice about what no news might mean? Should I assume I have been rejected? Also where did you receive your notification? Thank you!

To the poster who responded to my inquiry: Thanks for the update. I hold two offers (one I've already declined) and the other I'm holding off for UCLA. I feel bad because I'm sure other waitlisted students at the school I hold an offer are waiting on me to accept or decline. Sucks. And good luck to you as well.

To the poster below about the Cinema and Media Studies waitlist: I am still on it as well. I was told sometime after 4/20 I would be notified about a definitive answer. I looked up waitlist etiquette and it said to contact the department closer to that date to find out where you stand on the list. Good luck!

Has anybody come off the waitlist? In other words, has anybody who was on the waitlist been accepted?

Visited the admission office on Monday and asked them about when the decisions would be out. They said the results would be out in about two to three weeks.
